Ivyleaf team riding high again

Two Ivyleaf team members, Joel Treliving and Josh Maddocks, have recently been competing at the MBS European Cup at Out to Grass, Hereford. Josh narrowly missed out on a placing but pulled off a backflip in the under 18’s freestyle competition. Joel won the under 14’s category, this time being his third consecutive year. He achieved first place in the racing event and is now the sixth fastest in the world. He came second in the freestyle and was the only one in his age group to pull off a backflip. These results round off what was a good end to the season for the Ivyleaf Team Riders and they will continue to train during the winter. The centre is open for group bookings in advance until Easter 2008, when it opens in full again ready for the new season. Keep checking back here for more centre news.

UK Championships Round 4 - The Edge

The final round of the UK championships held at The Edge mountain boarding centre in Shropshire was blessed with sunny skies for the first time this season. The riders from Ivyleaf saw this as the last opportunity to display their talents this year. Joel Treliving was looking to repeat a double 1st in both freestyle and boarder cross. Alex Boardman was hoping to continue his ever improving boarder cross riding, while Josh Maddocks and Teo Skeaping were aiming to improve on their final elite standings. Saturday began with the boarder cross practice session, down a 150m technical and very fast track. All morning Alex was struggling to finish the track clean. Joel with his riding experience was clocking in quick times. By lunch the time trials began which allowed the riders to gain an advantage by getting the fastest times. After three runs each, Joel finished the fastest in the U14 while Alex scraped in at 6th fastest. With these times both Joel and Alex were granted with a choice of starting positions in their first race. This advantage paid off and both riders won their first two races. Heading into the semi final both riders started off well and managed to get out in front. Joel with his experience held his nerve and booked himself a place in the final. Alex however struggled with the speed of racing and buckled just metres from the line slamming face first into the dirt. This ended his riding for the weekend. Joel in his forth final of the year did not disappoint and bought home first to finish off a great season with 3 out of 4 wins. In the freestyle category Josh and Teo had to be at their best to conquer the 30ft jumps designed by the staff at The Edge. These jumps were hugely intimidating and Josh was struggling to clear the big flat. When the freestyle competition started on the Sunday both Teo and Josh opted to compete against the best riders in the UK. They both rode well pulling off some technical tricks and going huge over the jumps. Considering whom they were up against Josh and Teo performed well but only Teo could improve on his overall standings taking 7th place while Josh finished 12th. This event wrapped up a great season for all the riders and sets a great level for next season. Watch this space for a report on all the riders’ final standings for the 2007 season.

Ivyleaf Evening Session

Well, the weather held off (until prize giving) and it was a lil breezy but everyone had a wicked time!

This years event went down as one of the best since the centre has been running them. We had an invasion of the Trampa team and the guys from the BFC (i still don't know what that stands for!) These guys made the most out of the centres new foam pit and were going crazy with their tricks throughout the day. They soon took their riding to the freestyle kicker and were going huge.

The evening kicked off at 5:00pm as people started to roll in. The local riders were stoked to see such a great bunch of talented riders and couldn't wait to join them on the tracks.

The evenings competitions kicked off with the boarder x event. The guys had one run of time trials to gain the best spots at the starting gates. Several U16 riders competed in both categories which made the numbers great for boarder x racing. A tightly contested U16 final was won by Joel Treliving (Ivyleaf/Tramp/Buff) followed by fellow Ivyleaf team riders Josh Maddocks in 2nd and Bradley Olde in 3rd. The Open Category was a bit harder to judge who may have won. Both semi finals were close but it ended in a four man final of AJ Lawson (Trampa/Buff), Rhys Crilly (BFC), Joel Treliving and his older brother Jake (Ivyleaf). Again this was a pretty close affair but AJ managed to fight off Rhys for the top stop putting Trampa on top for both Boarder x categories.

We all knew the freestyle event would be great to watch and it did not dissapoint. It was always going to go to the wire and when the judges handed in their cards it was tied between four riders. This meant that it had to go back to the run scores. It seemed that the trick for the night were back flips as many people pulled off some huge rotations. The judges however, were also looking for good variation so this made the results a little unexpected. For the U16 Josh Maddocks of Ivyleaf took first place, repeating his performance of last year. Followed by Joel and then by Tom Reese (Trampa/Buff). Sticking your landings also played a huge part in the judges scoring and payed off for the top 3 riders in the Open category. Mike Payne of Trampa/Buff held on to the top spot with 2 sweet back flips, again Joel took second place and finally Teo Skeaping from Ivyleaf followed with 3rd.

All in all the evening went really well. Everyone was stoked that the weather held off and some good riding could be done. Ivyleaf would like to thank their supporters for this years event:

Trampa - Scrub - Gecko skate decks - Zuma Jay - SurfinUK clothing - Stu Bell (music) - Hill 62

We hoped everyone who came along had a great time and we look forward to seeing some of you guys again here in the near future.

Until next time!

UK Championships - Round 3

Round 3 of the UK Championships 2007 was held at SWMBC. Amongst the bad weather the event actually went ahead and with some great success for the Ivyleaf Team. There was a slight change in the format for this weekend with the freestyle competition being run on the Saturday. With several team members having great results at the Ivyleaf Evening session the pressure was on to perform at this event.

With many riders from all over the country entered into the competition the riding level was very high. Six members of the Ivyleaf Team entered into the freestyle event. Each rider had 3 runs each with the best two runs scored. Once again the team members showed great technical freestyle jumping. Several of our riders were carrying injuries but they persisted to perform well. For his first competitive event Team manager Alex Boardman scored well of his runs and finished 2nd in the Open category. Once again Joel Treliving came out on top in both the freestyle and boarder x events and Josh Maddocks finishing in 4th position in the elite category. Alex also entered the boarder x event in a toughly fought Open category. He raced in the quater finals and was clear in front when a slight lapse of concentration saw him over shoot the 4th berm, ending his attempts of a double podium.

All in all it was a great weekend and was finished on a high with the World Freestyle Event. Arno with a back to back rodeo sealing 1st place. Keep an eye on this news section for further notices and reports.

UK Championships - Round 1

Ivyleaf Team Line-upThe first round of the UK championships has passed and it was the first competitive event for the Ivyleaf team this year. Held at Court Farm, renowned for its very fast boarder-x and technical freestyle set-up, this was going to be a huge challenge for the guys.

None of the Team members opted to compete in the boarder-x so all the attention was on the freestyle event.

Due to the bad weather forecast for the Sunday the event organisers chose to run the freestyle competition on the Saturday night. This took most of the riders by surprise, but it did not faze them. Each rider was given 3 runs of the course. They were to demonstrate technical ability, amplitude, flow and landing. The better these were the higher the score they would receive.

Bradley Olde was in competition with 16 riders in the U14 category, while Josh Maddocks and Teo Ormand-skeaping were riding against the UK's best in the elite category. All three riders had a first solid run and landed all their tricks over the 3 jumps plus the quarter-pipe at the end.

The second run for the guys was just as good, except Teo slightly over-rotated on a 360 and crashed on the landing. The final run was equally as good but unfortunately with the same results. This left the guys with great anticipation for the results to be announced.

For his first event Brad came in with an outstanding 6th place and is looking to improve on that in his next competition. In the Elite category Teo finished with a respectable 11th place and Josh 7th to start the season with great prospects.

Keep your eyes open for further news and results.
